I was born and raised in central Siberia. My hometown is surrounded by vast forests. Every year people there face the problem of forest fires. Millions of hectares of forest are destroyed annually. Fires are a natural process for such vast forests, but not on such a scale. Modern fires in Siberia can hardly be called natural, since the vast majority of them are caused by human action — most experts agree with this. Title "Dark forest" is a Russian idiom denoting the unknown.
